CARBONDALE - Donations to Saluki Way are doing well, according to SIUC Chancellor Sam Goldman, with the project reaching more than $11 million of the desired $20 million.
Other funding includes $20 million approved by the city of Carbondale in 2007. The SIU Board of Trustees approved an $83 million budget in November of 2007. Ground was broken in March 2009.
Should the project stay on schedule, the new football stadium will be completed in August with the first game played Sept. 2. The Athletic Facility and newly renovated SIU Arena are set to be completed in October with the first basketball game played Nov. 1.
Goldman said there is still a list of potential donors. He said the organization of donations has gone very well and commended Athletic Director Mario Moccia and others for their efforts in bringing in the dough.
"They're getting a really good response from people," Goldman said.
