Kristin Morgan, a Marion native, is having success on the famous NBC game show JEOPARDY!

Morgan, a NASA analyst who lives in Huntsville, Ala., won for the fifth consecutive day Tuesday. She earned a $30,000 payday and punched her ticket to the JEOPARDY! Tournament of Champions.

Her next game airs today.

“It took me a few seconds to realize that winning five games made me eligible for the Tournament of Champions, but then I was elated!” Morgan said in a news release. “I never expected this. I’ve wanted to be on JEOPARDY! since I was at least 12, and I believe I’d taken the online qualification test four times before making it on the show.”

With Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in materials science and engineering from the University of Florida, Morgan, 36, said her education and career with NASA played a role in her success on the show.

“My engineering background certainly helps with the science categories, and my job helps with the space categories,” Morgan said. “I did fear a category about the Apollo program because I couldn’t face my colleagues if I blew those questions.”

An avid reader, knitter and opera enthusiast, Morgan’s extracurricular interest in the arts also provided her with the answers needed to stay ahead of the competition.

“In high school and through my first year of college, I wanted to study art history,” said Morgan. “That interest and my love of literature helped me out in all sorts of art, ballet, literature and early history categories.”

Locally, JEOPARDY! airs at 3 p.m. weekdays and 4:30 p.m. Saturdays on NBC local affiliate WSPD.

The JEOPARDY! Tournament of Champions begins Feb. 13.
