Illinois Centre Mall in Marion has a new name and a new owner.
Janet Bushue, general manager of the mall, said Tuesday the mall has been purchased by Barrett Rochman. Along with the purchase comes a new name for the mall, which will now be known as Illinois Starr Centre.
Rochman also owns Blue Sky Vineyards in Makanda.
"This is exciting news," Bushue wrote in a letter to mall tenants, "because if anyone can help us move this place forward and get new and exciting stuff going on here it is Mr. Rochman."
The change of ownership and the name change took effect Tuesday.
In her letter, Bushue said Rochman will schedule a meeting with tenants in a couple of weeks so the tenants can ask questions of their new owner.
Illinois Starr Centre has nearly 60 occupants and more than 600,000 square feet of retail shopping space, according to the mall's website. That space includes more than 200,000 square feet dedicated to specialty stores. The mall's three anchors are Dillard's, Sears and Target.
Bushue could not be reached for comment Tuesday afternoon.
