HERRIN — Allen E. Moore, 84, passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018.
Allen was a retired self employed carpenter and retired coal miner having last worked at Old Ben 21 Coal Mine.
He was a Christian and a member of Union Gospel Mission Church in Herrin, 1952 graduate of Herrin High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Allen was born July 27, 1933, in Herrin, to Lewis and Ida Mae (Threlkeld) Moore.
Allen was united in marriage with Sue Duncan on June 22, 1963, in Murphysboro.
Surviving are, his wife of 54 years, Sue Moore of Herrin; son, Brad Moore of Herrin; sister, Wanda Hamilton of Lakeside, Arizona; two nieces, Kathy Hopper of Herrin, Marita (David) Hoague of Herrin; nephew, Edward Hamilton of Lakeside, Arizona; great-niece, Ramona (Brett) Wieland of Herrin; and a great-nephew, Hans Hopper of Harrisburg.
He was preceded in death by a beloved daughter, Lynn Moore; parents; sister, Reta Howell; brother and sister-in-law, Virgil and Barbara Dye; brother-in-law, Bennie Hamilton; and two nephews, David Dye and Clifford Hamilton.
The family of Allen Moore wish to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Muniz and his staff and to Hospice of Southern Illinois for the compassionate care and concern provided to him and his family. A special thank you to the many family and friends who blessed him with personal visits and prayers. Your kindness has not gone unnoticed and is truly appreciated.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, in Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin, with Pastor Robert Jilek officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 19, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Herrin City Cemetery in Herrin.
