Tena M. Quirin
HERRIN - Tena M. Quirin, 90, died at 12:05 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, 2007, in Herrin Hospital.
Mrs. Quirin formerly worked for Allen Industries in Herrin for 17 years and also had worked as a waitress and cashier in Anna and Chicago.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Herrin.
Tena was a descendent of the Revolutionary War Patriot, William Frogge, of Virginia.
She loved animals, birds, flowers, shopping and cooking. Her humor and love of life will be missed.
She was born April 23, 1917, in Wolf Lake to Arthur H. and Paralee R. (Ross) Frogge.
Tena was first married to James A. Rinehart in 1936, in Dongola. He preceded her in death on Jan. 21, 1971. She then married Frank Quirin on June 26, 1971, in Murphysboro. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marie and David Samuel of Carterville; three grandchildren, Jill Wagner of Herrin, Clint Samuel of Carterville and Jed Samuel of Carterville; and three great-grandchildren, Tom and Joe Wagner of Herrin and Kaydie Samuel of Carterville.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; parents; a daughter, Rita Christine Rinehart; great-grandson, Jacob James Samuel; four brothers, Homer, Tiffin, Woodrow and Jasper Frogge; two sisters, Mollie Rhodes and Olivia Smith; and a beloved niece, Vera Norton.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, at Herrin City Cemetery, with the Rev. Ed Hoke officiate. Visitation will be from 1 to 1:45 p.m. at the Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin.

ELKVILLE - Wilma I. Havens Mastroddi, 88, died at 1:10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, in Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
Wilma was a homemaker and had worked at Luster Corporation for 30 years.
She was a member of Elkville Christian Church and Winnebago Winnies.
She was born July 18, 1919, in Murphysboro, the daughter of Cornelious Henry and Elona (Bretch) Underwood.
She married James D. Havens in 1934, and he died in 1991. She then married Kenneth Mastroddi in 1992, and he died Dec. 1, 2005.
She is survived by four children, Sharon Spurlock of Potomac, Sandra Phillips of Elkville, Sheila Tow of Elkville and Sonja Alvis and husband, John, of Elkville; three sisters, Nina Martin of Elkville, Freida Meyers of Freeburg and Helen Perryman of Elkville; two brothers, William Underwood and Herbert Underwood both of Royalton; 13 grandchildren, David Harrison, Kevin and Denise Harrison, Donnie and Lala Harrison, Jan and Wanda Phillips, Cindy Deleon, Damon and Debbie Havens, Mark Havens, Jean Ann and David Heath, Jeana Ellis, Randy Spurlock, Stephanie Alvis, Tracy Freckleton and Michael Tow; 25 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; son, Clifford Havens; daughter-in-law, Shirley Havens; son-in-law Dean Spurlock; brother, Cornelious H. Underwood, Jr.; infant brother, Charles; and infant sister, Wanda.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Elkville Christian Church, with Brothers Gary Pruitt, Jerry Aken and Ron Kreid officiating. Burial will be in Blairsville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin and from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Hazel G. Travelstead
MARION - Hazel G. Travelstead, 91, passed away at 5:15 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2007, in Fountains Nursing Home in Marion.
Hazel was born Jan. 1, 1916, in Creal Springs, the daughter of Sam and Ida (Newbold) Taylor. She married Carl Travelstead in Creal Springs on March 4, 1933. Together, they shared 55 years of marriage, until his death April 8, 1988.
Mrs. Travelstead was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Marion.
She was also a member of Marion Senior Citizens. She enjoyed cooking and crocheting but mostly loved all activities with her family.
Survivors include one daughter, Judy and Jeff Ray of Marion; one daughter-in-law, Joyce Travelstead of Marion; three granddaughters, Tina and Doug Grounds of West Frankfort, Beth and Glen Weeks of Collinsville and Jana and Kent Groh of Cave Creek, Ariz.; one grandson, Brad and Tonya Odum of Mount Vernon; eight great-grandchildren, Lauren Grounds of Tampa Bay, Fla., Ashton Grounds of West Frankfort, Christine and Chad Weeks of Collinsville, McKenna and Presley Groh of Cave Creek, Ariz., and Quaid and Kennedi Odum of Mount Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl; and one son, Bill Travelstead.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, in Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, at the funeral home.

HERRIN -Cora Sweet, 92, passed way after a long illness, at 8:45 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, 2007, in Herrin Hospital.
She was born Nov. 2, 1914, in Herrin.

She was a housewife and homemaker. She was a member of Church of God in Herrin.

She is survived by her parents, Eric and Heather Bowers of Benton; brothers, Ian Bowers and Justin Kulich of Benton; maternal grandparents, Dale and Ellen Schaffer of Benton; paternal grandparents, Floyd and Velma Bowers of West Frankfort; and numerous aunts, uncles and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Devon and Gabriel Bowers.

Wendell Hastings Sr.
MARION - Wendell Hastings Sr., 71, of Dongola, formerly of Marion, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, in Lourdes Hospital in Paducah.
Wendell was born Sept. 14, 1935, in Paulton to Irvan E. and Susie (Klope) Hastings.
He married Barbara Peters on July 5, 1962 in Marion. She survives him in Dongola.
He retired from Jordan's Construction.
He is survived by wife, Barbara Hastings, of Dongola; son, Wendell Hastings, Jr., of Dongola; grandchildren, Michelle Marquet and husband, Jarod, of Lone Oak, Ky., Melanie Hastings of Dongola and Nathan Hastings of Dongola; great-grandchildren, Aiden Marquet of Lone Oak, Ky., Isabella Marquet of Lone Oak, Ky., Skylar Marquet of Lone Oak, Ky., sister and brother-in-law, Loretta and Roger Coble of St. Charles; sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Audrey Horn of Virginia; sister, Joyce Bolton of Virginia, brother-in-law, Wayne Peters of Anna; brother-in-law, Dallas Peters and wife, Barbara, of Elburn; brother-in-law, Charles Peters of Dongola; sister-in-law, Janet Guth and husband, Galen, of St. Charles; sister-in-law, Linda Martinez and husband, Sergio, of St. Charles; and several nieces and nephews.
