Gary W. 'Harpo' Gendron

CUTLER - Gary W. "Harpo" Gendron, 54, passed away at 8:23 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, in Walsh.

He was born Nov. 1, 1953, in Murphysboro, the son of Albert Gendron and Helen (Hardy) Gendron.

Gary married Marty L. Fallon on Nov. 12, 1977, in Missionary Baptist Church in Willisville.

He was a construction laborer.

He was a member of Laborer Local 459 in Belleville, UMW of A Local 1392 and Okawville Beagle Club.

He is survived by his wife, Marty Gendron of Cutler; children, Kathy Gendron of O'Fallon and Gary (Angie Ewoldt) Gendron Jr. of Milwaukee; grandchildren: Alden and Jacob Gendron and Landon Rives; mother, Helen Gendron of Willisville; brothers and sisters Thomas (Cynthia) Gendron of Pinckneyville, Warren (Kathy) Gendron of Pinckneyville, Judy (Richard) Dammermann of Campbell Hill and Tracy Cheek of Campbell Hill; 13 nieces and six nephews; brothers-in-law, Billy Fallon of Cutler, John Stevens of Sparta, and Sam (Darla) Norsigan of Collinsville; and sister-in-law, Carrie (Lang) Dillow of Chester.

He was preceded in death by his father and one niece, Taylor Gendron.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville, with the Rev. Kevin Carrothers officiating and Tommie Gendron will be giving the eulogy. Burial will be in Cutler Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, and from 7:30 to 10 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Lorene 'Sue' (Storme) Bridenstein

MARION - Lorene "Sue" (Storme) Bridenstein, 96, formerly of Marion, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, in the home of her daughter, Kay Story, in Orlando, Fla.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Central Christian Church in Orlando. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to Central Christian Church, 250 Ivanhoe Blvd., Orlando, FL 32804.

Mrs. Bridenstein worked as a beautician in Coconut Grove, Fla., for 22 years. She and her sis ;ter, Retha, moved to Orlando in 1984 and joined Central Chris ;tian Church. She was a life ;time member of the Disciples of Christ Christian Church and enjoyed the many opportuni ;ties to serve, even in small ways. She was an inspiration to all who knew her and will be remembered and loved.

She was born Dec. 1, 1911, the fourth of six children, to Samuel Elbert (S.E.) and "Lona" Storme in Cambria. She moved to Marion at the age of 7.

She married Tom Bridenstein in 1933 and they moved to Miami in 1956. Her husband, a World War II veteran and retired electrician, died in 1983.

She is survived by two brothers, Cliff Storme and wife Betty of Illinois and Ray Storme of Florida; two daugh ;ters, Nola Holton and husband Jack and Kay Story and husband Jim; three granddaughters, Misty Gentle and husband David, Megan Story and Loren Marie Story; three great-grand ;children, Justin, Garrett and Tabitha Gentle, all of Florida; two nephews, Don Shure and wife, Yoko, of California and Steven Storme and wife, Mary, of Florida; four nieces, Ann Barrett and hus ;band, Jim, of Illinois, Carolyn Voss and husband, Peter, of Florida, Carol Tyner and husband, Bruce, of Illinois and Julie Storme and husband, Serg, of Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her husband; brother, Glenn; and sisters, Retha and Juanita.

Terry D. Upton

FAIRFIELD - Terry D. Upton, 45 , of Fairfield, but longtime resident of New Haven, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family.

At Terry's request, he was cremated and a memorial service will be held later.

Cox and Son Funeral Home in New Haven is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy V. Shores

CANTON - Dorothy V. Shores, 94, passed away at 3:20 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, in Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Canton.

She was born Jan. 8, 1914, in Herrin, the daughter of Lemuel and Vista (Freeman) Maxey. She married George William Shores. He died Oct. 14, 1980.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, four brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include her niece and guardian, Carole Painter of Canton, and several other nieces and nephews.

She had been a bookkeeper/secretary.

Dorothy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Canton. She was a former member and Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 46, College of Regents, a Past President of the UAW Auxiliary, and also belonged to the Women of the Moose 369, Canton Federated Women's Club, and Royal Neighbors Chapter 90.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, in Greenwood Cemetery in Canton, with the Rev. Rick Atchley officiating. There will be no visitation.

Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home in Canton is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to her church.

THOMPSONVILLE - Lucendia M. Dial, 83, died early Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, in her residence.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8, 2008, in Sloan Funeral Home, with the Revs. Kent Dunford, Raymond Howard and Jody Kilburn officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Westend. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, at the funeral home.

MCLEANSBORO - Helen Marie Malone, 82, died at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, in Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro.

Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, in Enfield Cemetery, with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.

CARBONDALE � William G. "Uncle Bill" Smith, 75, departed this life at 12:45 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, in his home surrounded by his loved ones.

Bill was born June 29, 1933, in Chicago to Ponzie and Smithie Smith.

His educational journey began in Chicago, where he attended elementary school. He completed his high school education in Los Angeles. In 1964, he moved to Carbondale to attend Southern Illinois University Carbondale, where he met and married Delores A. Mosley. To this union, a daughter was born, Joy M. Smith.

Bill worked as a legal investigator, coal miner and an adult basis educator during his life.

Survivors include his wife, Delores; daughter, Joy; and the love of his life, his precious granddaughter, Malika, all of Carbondale; five sister-in-laws, Bertha Powell, Evelyn Roseman and Diane (Darryl) Tipton, all of Carbondale, Zora Olgosby of Pasadena, Calif., and Sharon (Donald) Hyche of Champaign; one brother-in-law, Yolande' Mosely Ajamu of Carbondale; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends who all affectionately called him "Uncle Bill".

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be at 12 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, in Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Sidney Logwood officiating. Burial will be private.

Maxine E. Buschschulte

DU QUOIN - Maxine Ellen Buschschulte, 68, of Gladstone, Mo., and formerly of Du Quoin, passed away at 12:35 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, in the Woodbine Care Center in Gladstone, Mo.

Maxine was a homemaker. She was of the Pentecostal faith.

She was born Nov. 3, 1939, in Murphysboro, the daughter of Harold Lester and Violet Ellen (Draper) Robinson.

She is survived by five children, Barry E. Buschschulte and wife, Celeste, of Pinckneyville, Rhonda L. Goeke of Du Quoin, David A. Buschschulte and wife, Kim, of Wood River, Eric E. Buschschulte and wife, Cindy, of Gladstone, Mo., and Quentin W. Buschschulte and wife, Cathy, of Gladstone, Mo.; one brother, Harold R. Robinson of Galatia; four grandchildren, Austin Morgan, Matthew Stowers, Zachary Buschschulte and Nicholas Buschschulte; and one great grandson, Ethan Stowers.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, in Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin, with Jess Coffel officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin. Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the memorial park.

Those attending the service are asked to go directly to the cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association and will be accepted at the funeral home.

HERRIN - Lynn Paul Frattini, 65, died at 9:21 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, in Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis surrounded by his loving family.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, in Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin. Burial will be in Herrin City Cemetery in Herrin. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

WOODLAWN - Earl Gene Ferguson, Sr., 68, died at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, in Crossroads Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, in Woodlawn Odd Fellows Cemetery in Woodlawn, with the Rev. Merle Fullerton officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Odd Fellows Cemetery in Woodlawn. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon.

MCLEANSBORO - Shirley Ann Nation, 79, died at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, in her residence.

Evelyn E. Priebe

CAMPBELL HILL - Evelyn E. Priebe, 75, passed away at 5:50 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, in St. Anns Health Care Center in Chester.

Evelyn was born Jan. 13, 1933, in rural Campbell Hill, the daughter of Walter Edward Guetersloh and Virginia Minnie (Rubach) Guetersloh. Evelyn married Leonard Priebe on April 21, 1956, in Christ Lutheran Church in Jacob.

Evelyn was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Campbell Hill.

She is survived by her husband, Leonard Priebe of Campbell Hill; four sons, Terry (Mary) Priebe of Percy, Robert (Stacy) Priebe of Pinckneyville, John Priebe of Campbell Hill and Stephen (Diann) Priebe of Pinckneyville; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Roger Guetersloh and Charles Guetersloh, both of Murphysboro; one sister, Mary Vaughn of Murphysboro; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Raymond.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, in St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Campbell Hill, with the Rev. Raymond Barclay and the Rev. Rob Mathis officiating. Burial will be at Paradise Cemetery in Steeleville. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava and from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
