CARBONDALE — Charles William Sobery, 69, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017, at home in Cape Coral, Florida, surrounded by his family.
Charlie was born Jan. 22, 1948, in St. Louis, to the late Frederick A. Sobery and Beulah Mae (Janis) Sobery.
At the age of 5, he moved with his family to Carbondale, where his parents opened Sobery Bakery.
After graduation from Carbondale Community High School in 1966, he enlisted in the Army and served in Korea and Germany.
After his military service, he worked for the ICRR and FedEx. Soon after his retirement, he and his wife Julie fulfilled his dream of moving to Florida.
He is survived by his wife Julie Sobery of Cape Coral, Florida; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Chris Rajcic of Loves Park; sister, Molly Sobery and brother, Fred Sobery, both of Carbondale; and many family members and dear friends.
He was predeceased by his brother, Art.
Per Charlie's wishes, his body will be cremated and ashes scattered in his favorite place.
