ORIENT — Doyle Leon Parr, 84, of Orient, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend was finally called home to be with his beloved wife of 61 years, Gloria Jeanette. He passed away at 12:43 a.m. Thursday April 18, 2018, in SSM Health Good Samaritan in Mount Vernon.
Doyle was born Oct. 31, 1933, in Dongola, to Troy and Nora (Smith) Parr.
He was in the U.S. Army during the Korean era.
Doyle was a member of the Orient Church of Christ, American Legion Post 1961, and Fraternal Order of Police, Hammond, Indiana. He worked for Indiana Harbor Belt.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Jeanette; daughter, Kimberly Dawn Alexander; parents; great-granddaughter, Abigail Oller; brother, Delean Parr; sister, Joann Zillner.
His stories, laughter, and wit will be missed.
Doyle is survived by his daughters, Vicki (John) Terre and Sharon (Dave) Dodge; brothers, Robert (Janet) LaVoie; sisters, Joyce (Whitey) Whiteside, Connie (Charlie) Gilmore, and Phyllis Norris; 13 grandchildren; 15 great- grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 22, in Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort, with Pastor Ed Pool officiating. Burial will be in Denning Cemetery on the Orient Road. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. prior to the service. Military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 1961 of Orient, VFW Post 5764 of West Frankfort, and Zeigler Post 177.
