MURPHYSBORO — Gary Allen Beckman, 67, passed away at 11:26 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018, in Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
Gary was born Sept. 28, 1950, in Murphysboro, to Herbert Beckman and Shirley (Bockhorn) Beckman.
He had held several jobs during his lifetime working for Air Illinois, Phelps Dodge and Penn Aluminum, U.M.W.A. as a construction worker and Ultra, Inc. He retired as property maintenance supervisor for the City of Carbondale in 2006.
Gary loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed the outdoors, including fishing, hunting, camping and golf. In his back yard, he loved sitting by the campfire and entertaining family and friends.
He married Brenda Perkins on June 12, 1971, in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Murphysboro, and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Lance Beckman and Cody Beckman, both of Murphysboro; three sisters, Vicki, Denise and Patti Beckman, all of Murphysboro; his mother-in-law, Betty Perkins of Murphysboro; his sister-in- law, Gail Beckman of De Soto; one nephew, Keith Evans and his wife, Katie Evans of Durham, South Carolina; and one niece, Melissa Evans of Nashville, Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Lloyd Perkins and daughter-in-law, Mandi Beckman.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, in Pettett Funeral Home with Pastor Dan King officiating and burial in Tower Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and until 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
