CARBONDALE — Peter Labyk, 91, of Carbondale, passed away Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, in Manor Court with his wife by his side.
He was born Jan. 2, 1926, in Myscova, Poland.
Peter married Erna Koderhold on Sept. 1, 1951 in Graz, Austria. They arrived in America on Ellis Island on Christmas Day in 1951. This September, they celebrated 66 years of wonderful marriage.
He worked at TC Industries Heat Treating in Crystal Lake until his retirement in 1988. Upon retiring, they moved to Southern Illinois to be close to their daughter and granddaughters.
He loved cars and spending time on his farm in Anna. In 2006, he moved to Liberty Village in Carbondale, but continued to visit the farm often.
Peter is survived by his loving wife, Erna of Carbondale; a daughter, Christine Labyk and her husband, Robert Gamlin; granddaughters, Brooke Berkowitz of Memphis and Lauren (Bob) Gorter of Jacksonville, Florida; great-grandchildren, Ava, Jackson and Nicholas; other relatives and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
Funeral Services for Peter Labyk will be Thursday, Sept. 14, at 11 a.m. in Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home with Father Robert Flannery officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the hour of service.
Interment will follow at the Pleasant Grove Memorial Park.
