CARTERVILLE — Randall Eugene Berkel, 80, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
He was born Dec. 11, 1936, in Harrisburg, the son of the late Frank Joseph and Agatha “Kitty” (McLain) Berkel.
Randall married Mary Louise Simpson on Aug. 22, 1959. Mary preceded him in death July 31, 2008.
Randall retired from the production line of the Ford Motor Company Chicago Heights Stamping Plant.
He also attended the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin.
Randall was a devoted husband and father who enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and camping.
He is survived by his two daughters, Anna Marie Berkel of Carterville, Cynthia Louise and Gary Hall of Carbondale; four grandchildren, Melissa and Joshua Berkel-Morale, Megan Berkel, Izaak Berkel, and Sarah Slager; four great- grandchildren, Nicoletta Morale, Levi Berkel, Alivia Berkel, and Xavier Berkel.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two daughters, Janice Elaine Urban and Julia Lynn Slager; one granddaughter, Ashley Marie Urban; and one brother, David Godfrey Berkel.
Visitation for Randall will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Nov. 10, with prayer service at 5 p.m. in Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Equality, with Father Steven Beatty conducting the service. Burial will follow the service in St. Joseph Cemetery near Equality.
