ENERGY — The Rev. Paul E. Tirey, 68, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2018, in Union County.
Paul received his bachelor’s degree from the University of the Cumberland’s in Williamsburg, Kentucky, and his master's of divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.
Paul was currently the senior pastor of United Missionary Baptist Church in Buncombe and pastored other churches in the Southern Baptist Convention, which include First Baptist Church of Alton, Alton; First Baptist Church of Waverly, Waverly, Tennessee; Cynthiana First Baptist Church in Cynthiana, Kentucky; the First Baptist Church in Andersonville, Tennessee and currently served as a Chaplain for Residential Home Health and Residential Hospice in Marion.
Paul was born March 24, 1950, in Hamilton, Ohio, to Claude and Mattie (Price) Tirey.
Paul was united in marriage with Pamela Ann Phillips on April 7, 1973, in Corbin, Kentucky. She survives in Energy.
Also surviving are his children, Joshua Tirey of McKinney, Texas, Christina Abbott and her husband, Joseph, of Murphysboro, Ashley Thompson of Denver, Colorado; brother and sister-in-law, John and Brenda Tirey of Virginia Beach, Virginia; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Art Motzer of Hamiton, Ohio; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Dorsie and Marshall Phillips of Shelbyville, Kentucky; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sandy Roberts Dunn and her husband, Greg of Cave City, Kentucky; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Todd and Peggie Phillips of Frankfort, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, in United Missionary Baptist Church on Lick Creek Road, with Dr. Clay Stevens officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 14, in Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin and from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Ebenezer Hall Cemetery.
