JOHNSTON CITY — Shirley Jean Smith, 80, passed away at 4:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, 2018, in Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, in Murman and Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City, with Pastor Don Colson officiating. Burial will be in Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children or Marion Regional Humane Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Shirley was born Sept. 22, 1937, in Marion, the daughter of Earl and Venita (Hudgens) McPheron.
She married Donny Smith on Aug. 5, 1956, in Johnston City. He survives.
Shirley was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved to take care of animals.
She is survived by one son, Rickey Smith and wife, Rebecca, of Marion; one daughter, Vickey Anderson and husband, David, of Marion; three grandchildren, Matt Smith and wife, Maddie, Chase Anderson and fiancée, Andrea Knight, and Scott Anderson; four great-grandchildren, Avah Anderson, Kinley Anderson, Brentlee Anderson, and Maelyn Smith; one brother, Larry McPheron and wife, Kathy, of Johnston City; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Bonnie Salo and husband, Wayne.
