MULKEYTOWN — Wayne Smith, 95, of Mulkeytown, Illinois, passed away at 4 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9, 2017, at the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Wayne was born July 21, 1922, in Freeman Spur, Illinois, to Perry Edwards and Cannie (Brisco) Smith.
He married Mary Ann Graboski Sept. 6, 1945, in St. Petersburg, Florida. She preceded him in death Feb. 10, 2013.
He is survived by a daughter, Linda Feigenbaum of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; a granddaughter, Crystal (Tim) VanAusdoll of Vienna; three grandchildren, Emily (Jack) Hudson and Collin and Grace VanAusdoll; a great-grandson, Jake “JT” Hudson; and a brother, Ira Lee Smith of Herrin.
His parents; a grandson, Richard Eickelmann; five brothers, Pleasant, Earl, Edward, Ivan and Melvin Zea Smith, and three sisters, Lena Harbuck, Eva Koch and Edna Fozzard, and three infant siblings also preceded him in death.
Mr. Smith was a loving father, grandfather and brother. He was a member of the First Apostolic Church in Zeigler and faithful to the Lord. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and retired as an Operator at Container Stapling in Herrin.
Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 12, at Vantrease Funeral Home in Zeigler with Reverend Jason Todd officiating. Burial will be at the Herrin City Cemetery. Visiting hours are from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Smith are suggested to the Zeigler Fist Apostolic Church, P.O. Box 233, Zeigler, IL 62999.
