ELLIS GROVE — A birthday celebration is planned from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday in honor of Pierre Menard, Illinois’ first lieutenant governor, who was born 246 years ago, Oct. 7, 1766.
The party will be at the Pierre Menard Home, 4230 Kaskaskia Road in Ellis Grove.
By the age of 30, Menard already was a respected entrepreneur and had entertained many notable politicians and businessmen at his grand home, which is now a state historic site.
Sunday’s party will include volunteers cooking and baking in the home’s detached kitchen, period music played in the parlor and a video shown in the lower level. The Museum Room in the lower level has many original artifacts.
There is no charge for admission, but donations are appreciated at the event, sponsored by volunteers and Illinois Historic Preservation Agency staff.
