More than a dozen people spent an enjoyable afternoon at the Armory in Carbondale racing remote cars on Saturday. Alpha RC Raceways hosts practices and races for both off-road and on-road remote control race cars. The cars are battery powered and have mechanical parts, and they are raced on a track with many curves and jumps. Several races are held during the day and in between races, participants spend their time recharging and making adjustments to their cars. According to participant Joe Roach of Johnston City, who teaches automotive at John A. Logan Community College, working on the remote control cars is similar to working on a full-size car.
