INA - Not going anywhere this weekend? Head to 14th Century London with actors in Rend Lake College's Madrigal Dinner Theatre.
This year's show, "Teeney Bob: The Demon Pet Groomer of Sweet Street," will be RLC's fourth annual installment under the direction of Sara Alstat. This year, Alstat went with a parody of "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street."
Audience members will enjoy a three-course meal inside a castle on stage with a working drawbridge.
"The storyline is very funny, and if you are a Sweeney Todd fan, you will enjoy our parody of that. (Art professor) Therese [Melena] did a great job painting the set, which is London back in the time of the Black Plague," Alstat said. "There's blood all over the walls."
Students from across the area are participating. Those include Kent Almaroad as a page, Jane Ballantyne as a courtier, Isaiah Barnfield as the king, Audrey Blake as Mrs. Love-it, Kim Brannan as a wench, Chrystal Brown as a courtier, Christa Conner as a courtier, Emily Dixon as the town crier, Chris Fegan as a courtier, Robin Johnson as a courtier, Dena Kime as a wench, Kathy Krutsinger as Judge Joonie, Carolyn Lass as a wench, Caitlin Luckett with instrumentation, Levi Overturf as the jester, Kyndel Shreve as the queen, Quinton Sledge as Teeney Bob, Kassondra Stroud as a courtier, Brooke Sutton as a courtier and Eric Wakefield as Bob Barker.
"It's dinner theatre with acting, singing, comedy, dancing, audience interaction and some great food," Alstat said. "I think audience members enjoy dining on the stage and becoming part of the action. And, this year, they will sit inside a castle. We have several people who have been to every one of them. They enjoy it every year. I even have some who come to multiple performances in a year."
The first performance was Thursday night. Upcoming performances are at 7 p.m. today and Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $25 each, which includes dinner and the show. They can be purchased by calling RLC Box Office at 618-437-5321, ext. 1467.
