A 40-year-old man’s death in Christopher early Saturday is being treated as “a suspicious death,” said Franklin County Coroner Marty Leffler.
Case investigators did not release the man’s name, pending notification of family members.
The man was pronounced dead at 1:41 a.m. in the Franklin Hospital emergency room, Leffler said.
Franklin County 911 received a report at 12:51 a.m. that an unresponsive individual was in need of emergency care at 411 Sylvia St., Apt. B, in Christopher, according to a news release from Franklin County State’s Attorney Evan L. Owens.
Christopher police and emergency medical personnel responded. Efforts to resuscitate the individual were unsuccessful, according to the news release.
Preliminary reports reveal the deceased man had a dangerous level of alcohol concentration in his body at the time of death.
Leffler said he has ordered an autopsy to be performed today at Franklin Hospital morgue by a forensic pathologist before he announces an official cause of death.
Illinois State Police is in charge of the investigation, according to Christopher police.
