CARBONDALE — A late addition to this week’s SIU Board of Trustees agenda will have members discussing provisions to the university’s contractual agreement with President Glenn Poshard.

Board members are set to begin a two-day retreat at the university’s Touch of Nature camp today, but the provisions won’t be discussed until Thursday, Poshard said.

“It’ll actually be taken up…in closed session,” he said. “If there is any action, it’ll be taken up in the open session afterward.”

Poshard told The Southern Illinoisan he couldn’t discuss the particulars of the item prior to the board meeting, only that it was something he was bringing to the board. Discussion of the item was added to the agenda Monday.

Poshard’s contract with SIU runs until 2015.

The president and the two campus chancellors will be making informal presentations to board members during the two-day retreat. Poshard plans to discuss with trustees goals for the university system for 2014.

Board Chairman Randal Thomas has said he called for the retreat so trustees could discuss concerns and issues they’d like to see addressed up front.

Meetings begin at 8 a.m. both days.
