Delbert E. Sisco, 42, of Golconda, a suspect in the theft of a Pope County school bus sometime before sunrise Monday, is in the Massac County Jail after turning himself in to Pope County Sheriff Jerry Suits early Wednesday.

Suits said he received a call shortly after midnight, went to meet Suits and arrested him without incident on charges of theft and posses-sion of a stolen vehicle. Bond has been set at $50,000, meaning Sisco would have to post $5,000 cash to obtain his release.

The investigation continues and crime lab results are coming in, Suits said. The bus apparently had been driven several hundred miles after being stolen from a bus driver’s home; it was aban-doned at a convenience store off Interstate 14 in Johnson County. It was out of gas and had a dent in the right rear of the bus, the sheriff said. It remained out of service.

Anyone who has information on the incident is asked to call the Pope County Sheriff’s Department at 618-683-4321.
