CARBONDALE - A book published by Southern Illinois University Press is up for a National Book Award next month in New York City.

“Heavenly Bodies” from author Cynthia Huntington is a compilation of poems focused on sex, drugs, political and personal dramas set in 1960s America. It was published by SIU Press in January.

It is one of five books up for the National Book Award in the poetry category. The awards are annually given out by the National Book Foundation. This year’s ceremony is set for Nov. 14.
