College affordability hearing Thursday: A public hearing on college affordability, hosted by state Sen. Michael Frerichs of Champaign, is set for 1 p.m. Thursday in the Mississippi River Room of the SIU Carbondale Student Center.

The event is the second in a series of hearings by Frerichs, D-Champaign, accompanied by a University of Illinois law student, as well as officials from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission and other elected representatives.

Frerichs is set to host five more hearings at public universities throughout the state.

“I look forward to having these conversations and learning the best ways to ensure everyone is given the same opportunities.

“No one should be discouraged from attending one of our state’s universities or community colleges due to financial need,” Frerichs said.
