CARBONDALE -- The Paul Simon Public Policy Institute at SIU Carbondale has named its new associate director.

Delio A. Calzolari of Chicago has been hired for the position, according to a news release issued this week from the institute. He replaces former associate director Matt Baughman, who became assistant to Chancellor Rita Cheng in August.

Calzolari has a law degree, cum laude, from SIU's School of Law and a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has served as a Navy officer, a manager with Caterpillar, Inc., a campaign staffer for Obama for America '08 and as a chief advisor for Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon, according to the news release.

"I am honored to have the opportunity to support this important part of Senator Simon's legacy," Calzolari said.

Calzolari's main duties at the institute will be fundraising, organizing institute workshops and events, as well as running day-to-day operations, according to the news release.

He begins in his new job Nov. 1.
