CARBONDALE - A Matteson student was injured early Friday morning after he apparently accidentally fell from a fourth-story window at an SIU Carbondale residence halls.

Tyler Gravitt, a freshman, fell from the fourth floor of University Hall. The incident appears to have been an accident, according to a post from Chancellor Rita Cheng on the university's Facebook page.

Gravitt was taken to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale and later transferred to a St. Louis hospital, where he remains in an intensive care unit, Cheng said.

SIU police are continuing an investigation into the event.

"We continue to be in close contact with Tyler’s family. Please keep Tyler and his family in your thoughts and prayers," Cheng said.
