University awarded grants: The National Science Foundation has awarded an $896,629 grant to fund an SIU research project, entitled “Efficient Temporal-Spatial Spectrum Sharing through Voluntary Exchange,” which is under the direction of Xiangwei Zhou.The goal of this project is to investigate more efficient and flexible access to radio spectrum which could have broad implications for commercial broadband providers, public safety, homeland security and national defense.

The National Institute of General Medical Sciences has awarded a $246,979 grant to fund an educational research project titled, “Southern Illinois Bridges to the Baccalaureate Program.” The long-term goal of the Bridges to the Baccalaureate Program is to enhance the pool of community college students from groups under-represented in biomedical and behavioral sciences.
