Authorities say a Granite City husband and wife were found dead after a fire at their home.
The Madison County Coroner's Office identified the couple as 70-year-old Randall R. Witter Sr. and 59-year-old Rhonda M. Witter. Authorities say the Long Lake Volunteer Fire Department and Mitchell Fire Department responded to the home about 4:30 a.m. Sunday after a 911 caller reported the blaze. They found heavy flames in the living room when they arrived.
Firefighters searched the home and found the Witters. They were pronounced dead shortly before 6 a.m. Autopsies and toxicology tests were planned. Authorities say the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
