Two people were arrested after a traffic stop turned into a chase that began in rural Jefferson County, Illinois State Police announced Monday.

Police made a traffic stop on a passenger vehicle about 4:15 p.m. Sunday. The driver was identified as Miranda Richards, 25, of Evansville, Ind. Richards was found to have a suspended license and wanted on a warrant from Indiana.

The passenger was identified as Cody Tyler Glenn, 21, also of Evansville, Ind., and also wanted on a warrant in Indiana, state police said.

When officers attempted to make an arrest, the driver fled.

Officers followed the suspects onto Illinois 148 southbound to Illinois 14 westbound until arriving west of U.S. 51 on Greenmarket Road.

Richards stopped the vehicle as if to surrender and then drove her car into an Illinois State Police car, troopers said. Both driver and passenger were arrested and taken to Perry County Jail.

State police said Richards was booked on charges of DUI, aggravated fleeing and the Indiana warrant, with other charges pending. Glenn was booked on the Indiana warrant charge.

Police continue to investigate.
