Madigan's just looking
To the Editor:
This letter is in reference to the story "Madigan's office continues to look at gas prices."
Someone must have been gassing up her vehicle for her as she blindly rides to and fro. Ever since the historic rise of gas prices began, we have been paying the refined and delivered price of gas based on the price of oil yet in the ground. And her office is still looking at gas prices?
Has she, in this historical rise in gas prices at the pump, not noticed that when one station raises its prices, every station down the road has matched or will match the price almost to the penny. Surely she doesn't think this occurs without collusion or price fixing. And her office continues to just look at gas prices.

Learn more about conceal carry
To the Editor:
Voters in several Illinois counties will be voting on a conceal carry referendum Nov 4. Some of these counties in our area include Saline, Union, Franklin and Jefferson. Illinois and Wisconsin are the only two states that do not have conceal carry. All of the other 48 states have some type of concealed carry law.
I feel very compelled to help inform the public of this very important and historic event. There will be a town hall meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Lions Club on South Main St. in Harrisburg. Some of the speakers will include Valinda Rowe, Mike Hadfield, George Henley and Mike Corkran. There will be several state legislators and many members of the law enforcement community.
I would like to take this opportunity to invite the citizens of our communities to attend this meeting. The citizens will have the opportunity to ask questions concerning this referendum. With a little knowledge from the constituents, working together with the legislators, perhaps we can finally become the 49th state of the Union with conceal carry.
