To the Editor:
Although my ancestors would probably have not used the same coarse language as our president, they possibly assessed their country of birth as disparagingly as he characterized Haiti recently.
Their country was poor and over-crowded. There wasn’t enough food and there weren’t near enough jobs for the growing population. People were out of work and many were starving.
It was no wonder that so many — single men and women ready to leave families that were barely hanging on themselves, and whole families with no means of support — took the leap of faith to come to America.
We came from Norway.
