To the Editor:
Thank you Southern Illinoisan. The front page of Feb. 1 newspaper was right on!
"Power back to the people" is exactly what Rauner has been trying to do. The four paragraphs you highlighted were great. The first paragraph: "We cannot tax and borrow our way into prosperity." Who can disagree with that statement? Second paragraph: "Pension expense can (not) be sustained. Most (people in the legisture) lack the courage to break with status quo so we can change our path to the future." Again, who could disagree with that statement? Third paragraph: "We need the economic spark." No one in this state could argue with that statement. Last paragraph: "Eighty percent of state's voters want term limits. The other 20 percent are seated in this chamber and in elected Illinois courts." Sad, sad, sad, but true — and everyone (even Madigan) knows this is true!
Having read the article, and having lived in this state for over 67 years, how could anyone not realize that while you may disagree with Rauner, or the GOP, it is evident that electing a Democratic governor is doing business the "same old way" and we can't have more of the same, our state can't stand it.
