To the Editor:

The recent eclipse was an amazing experience. Thousands of people came to Southern Illinois to experience this celestial event.

As a graduate of Carbondale Community High School class of 1999, and a 2005 graduate of the SIUC school of Journalism, I wish to applaud Carbondale’s efforts in preparing for this influx of visitors. Specifically, the City of Carbondale’s efforts in revamping the downtown area left a positive impression on me, and I believe left a positive impression on many of the people who were here from outside the area. The variety of music and shopping that was available for visitors both in town and on the SIUC campus added an extra sparkle to Carbondale over the course of three days.

Carbondale could have easily missed the mark with their eclipse preparation, but in my opinion Mayor Henry, City Manager Gary Williams, the Council members, and the front line workers all made eclipse weekend in Carbondale “on target.”
