To the Editor:
The Murphysboro High School Key Club is sponsoring the 30th annual Community Easter Egg Hunt at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 31, at Riverside Park.
Although Key Club has been involved in much of the work (stuffing the eggs with candy and manpower the day of the event) of all the past hunts, this is actually the 22nd year that we have taken on full sponsorship. Our thanks goes to all those who have continued to help the last 21 years as we strive to continue this holiday tradition. Your help has allowed us to buy the eggs and candy and some nicer prizes and baskets for the children. We also appreciate the continued support of the Patriot-Bravo Company who has sponsored the Easter Bonnet Contest from the beginning hunt and Walmart, which has been a huge supporter for many years.
Based on past years, about 300 or more children from toddler age through the fourth grade will likely hunt for almost 8,000 eggs stuffed with candy and prizes. Key Club has made a commitment to this project and will guarantee that it is properly funded but would certainly appreciate any help you or your business or organization might be willing to give. That help could take many forms:
• Cash donations.
• Prizes for the participants.
• Possible mascots who come in on firetrucks before the hunt begins and visit with the kids.
• Actual live bodies to help “direct traffic” the morning of the event at the park.
Contribution to this event would be appreciated. Your gift will enable a large number of community children to participate in a fun-filled morning complete with prizes and “goodies” for all, a morning that will certainly be a lifetime memory. No contribution is too small. If you wish to make a contribution, please make the check out to Murphysboro Key Club and mail it to 28 Candy Lane, Murphysboro IL 62966. If you wish to participate in any other way or have questions, please contact faculty adviser Bob Hall at 534-3818.
