To the Editor:
May I start off by saying that I'm an American and proud of it!
Some will see this letter as "taking a knee," but I assure you I'm just as much a patriot as the next person. Here's my complaint: There are certain times and instances that the American flag should be flown at half-staff. Am I the only person who feels that flying the flag at half-staff has been abused? We seem to fly the flag more at half-staff than we do at full-staff.
Yes, what happened in Navada was unfortunate, but this is the world we now live in. Since 9/11, things of this nature seem to be common place, which is disturbing and sad, but if we fly our flag at half-staff for every evil thing that happens to us, it will never be flown as it was intended to -- high, proud and protective.
Let's remember what the flag stands for and not use it as a tool to mourn!
