To the Editor:
U.S. Rep. Mike Bost has disappeared. Where are his public appearances at gatherings of his constituents? Months ago he said he was leery of the general mass of Southern Illinoisans. He said he would only meet in tiny groups of (I assume) like-minded white men.
In the last year, I have tried to reach out to him. Letters, postcards, emails and phone calls to his local and Washington offices. I was polite. I asked for a response. He has ignored my questions. I strongly feel they are justified.
Now I ask other people to contact Rep. Bost and ask these questions. I also ask The Southern to put him on public record with these issues and many others, too:
“Do you support Donald Trump’s documented statements about and treatment of women, ethnic groups, non-white racial groups, and the Department of Justice?”
“Do you feel as Trump does (well-documented) that the press is ‘the enemy of the people’?”
“How do you feel about DACA, the Dreamers? Have you made any effort to meet with and vigorously support the Dreamers in our region? What bills are you sponsoring to ensure they earn U.S. citizenship?”
“The recent tax-cut bill you bragged about passing actually also further cut the taxes of millionaires and billionaires. How do you justify that given that most of the people in your district are lower middle-class or in poverty?”
Speak up, Rep. Bost. Note your title of Representative (and up for re-election, by the way). Speak up, readers. What questions do you want him to answer for you?
