Pinckneyville Community High School has recognized Denise Bruns, Danielle Bruns, Katherine Kovic, Katelyn Mayer, Logan Queen and Jordyn Wieland for academic honors.

Denise Bruns, 18, is an Illinois State Scholar, Murphy-Wall November Student of the Month and was a Graduation Marshal junior year. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, junior class congress, Spanish club, pep club, cheerleading and the volleyball team.

The daughter of Dennis and Diane Bruns of Pinckneyville, she plans to major in radiologic technology at Rend Lake Community College.

Danielle Bruns, 18, is an Illinois State Scholar, Prairie State Scholar, Murphy-Wall February Student of the Month and was a graduation marshal junior year. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, junior class congress, Spanish club, pep club, cheerleading and the volleyball team.

The daughter of Dennis and Diane Bruns of Pinckneyville, she plans to major in radiologic technology at Rend Lake Community College.

Kovic, 17, is an Illinois State Scholar, Murphy-Wall State Bank Student of the Month, River-to-River Band, received the Prairie State Achievement Award, Daughters of the American Revolution Award and Honor Roll. She is senior class secretary/treasurer, a member of Beta Club, Marching Panther Pompons, band, Music makers, Future Business Leaders of America, Scholar Bowl, special chorus, Mosley Advanced Placement Program for Success, Spanish club and pep club.

The daughter of Michael and Shari Kovic of Pinckneyville, she plans to major in accounting at SIUC.

Mayer, 18, is an Illinois State Scholar, All-South in basketball, President's List at Rend Lake College and received Honor Roll. She is a member of Beta Club, Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering team and varsity basketball and volleyball teams.

The daughter of Judy Mayer of Pinckneyville, she plans to major in business administration at the University of Missouri.

Queen, 17, is an Illinois State Scholar, Murphy-Wall State Bank Student of the Month, Illinois Music Education Association All-District Band, Heartland Honor Band, Quad State Honor Band, River-to-River All-Conference Band and received Honor Roll. She is a member of Beta Club band, jazz band, MAPPS/Lifesavers, WYSE team, Music Makers, Spanish club and pep club.

The daughter of Toby and Erin Queen of Pinckneyville, she plans to major in radiology at Rend Lake Community College.

Wieland, 17, is an Illinois State Scholar, nominated Illinois High School Association All-Academic team, Southern Illinois River-to-River All-Conference softball 2012, placed sixth in IHSA 2013 competitive dance, received the Wendy's High School Heisman School Award and Rend Lake College softball scholarship. She is senior class vice-president, a member of Beta Club, Scholar Bowl, Marching Panthers band, pep club, pep band, PCHS dance team, Southern Express travel softball and varsity softball team.

The daughter of Donnie and Tammy Kincannon of Pinckneyville and Brett Wieland of Herrin, she plans to study at Rend Lake College.

Commencement will be at 2 p.m. May 18 in Thomas Gymnasium at Pinckneyville Community High School.
