MARION - Marion Post 147 spit out the bad taste of losing two straight and being eliminated at the District 25 tournament by beating Cisne Post 603 14-7 in the play in game of the Fifth Division American Legion Senior Baseball Tournament at Ray Foose Park in Marion.

Marion moves into the winners' bracket and will play Belleville today at 4 p.m. Cisne drops into the losers' bracket and will play Effingham - an 11-7 loser to Edwardsville at - 7 p.m.

Marion broke open the game scoring four runs in the third inning and six more in the fourth to take an 11-0 lead. Marion had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning without a hit by taking advantage of three Cisne errors.

In the third, Marion sent nine men to the plate against Cody Lynn. Marion started the rally with a pair of lead off singles by Tyler Sopczak and Bobby Madden. The first run scored when Kenton Parmley's hot smash was booted by the Cisne third baseman.

Travis Cripps continued the rally doubling in Madden and Parmley. After a groundout and a strikeout, Andruw Rowe hit a single to right center to score Cripps.

Marion continued to get to Lynn in the fourth loading the bases with nobody out on a single by Sopczak, an error, and a walk to Parmley. Cripps drove in the first run of the inning on a single to short left.

Matt Caraway followed with a single through the first base hole to score a pair leaving runners at first and third for Tyler Thomas.

Thomas ended Lynn's game on the mound by crushing a 0-2 pitch over the fence in right for a three-run homer.

Cisne wasted a good chance in the bottom of the first when Marion starter Kyle Hudson had trouble and loading the bases with one out on three walks. However, Hudson found his rhythm finally striking out Cody Lewis and Jordan Oberchet to maintain the one run lead.

After going down in order in the second and third inning, Cisne finally got to Hudson for three runs in the fourth on one hit, two errors, a hit batsman and a walk.

Hudson pitched a good game for Marion by allowing five runs on only three hits over the first six innings. The right-hander pitched two batters in the seventh giving up a hit and another run on an error before giving way to Sopczak. Cisne rallied for four runs against Sopczak in the remainder of the seventh to pull within five at 12-7.

Today's action begins at 10 a.m. with Steeleville post 480 playing Carrier Mills followed by Murphysboro Post 127 against New Baden.
