ST. LOUIS — Three SIU football players earned academic honors from the Missouri Valley Football Conference, the league announced on Wednesday.
Offensive lineman Jacob Marnin was a second team selection, and fullback Hans Carmien and safetey Jeremy Chinn were honorable mention selections.
Marnin, a sophomore, earned second team honors in his first season eligible for MVFC all-academic honors. Marnin was a first team academic all-district selection this year, as well. He played in 10 games and started nine at guard. SIU led the MVFC and ranked 12th nationally in fewest sacks allowed.
Marnin holds a perfect 4.0 GPA in criminology and criminal sciences.
Carmien finished his Saluki career as a two-time honorable mention All-MVFC honoree. He earned the MVFC President's Council Academic Award in 2016, the highest academic honor given by the league. He played in 10 games this year and started seven. Carmien holds a 3.667 GPA in agribusiness economics.
Chinn, a sophomore, was a second team All-MVFC honoree this season. He led the MVFC in forced fumbles (40) and was sixth in interceptions (three). He led the MVFC in combined forced fumbles and interceptions (seven) and was third on the team with 66 tackles. Chinn holds a 3.559 GPA in exercise science.
