SIU's Katelyn Massa (99) is congratulated by first baseman Shaye Harre (25) after hitting an RBI-double in the tenth inning against Evansville to win 1-0 at Charlotte West Stadium on Tuesday in Carbondale.

CARBONDALE — SIU softball added a third player to its early signing class Tuesday, junior college outfielder Nicole Johnson.

Johnson, a left-handed outfielder from Rend Lake College, will transfer to SIU and play as a junior in 2018.

As a freshman at Rend Lake, Johnson hit .388 and exceeded in the classroom, earning a spot on the NJCAA All-Academic Team. She was also a member of the president's and vice-president's list.

Johnson is originally from Johnson City, and was a teammate of current Saluki Bailee Pulley. Johnson was named to the all-conference team four years in a row and hit .534 as a senior.

Johnson joined Ashley Wood, a shortstop from Orland Park, and Sidney Sikes, a third baseman/catcher from Kaufman, Texas, in SIU's signing class.
