SIU volleyball hosts Arkansas State

SIU's Andrea Estrada tries to block a ball hit over by Arkansas State's Kenzie Fields on Tuesday at SIU Arena.

CARBONDALE — The SIU volleyball team returns home Tuesday to face regional rival Southeast Missouri State.

The Salukis (0-7) host the Redhawks (5-5) at 7 p.m. at SIU Arena. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for youth (ages 2-17). Students get in free with valid ID. The match is scheduled to air on ESPN3.

SIU has won seven of its last eight over Southeast Missouri State, but is still looking for its first win of the season. Freshman Maggie Nedoma had 18 kills at Oakland on Friday, the most by a Saluki freshman since Andrea Estrada had 18 against Indiana State in 2014. Nedoma's three straight matches with 10-plus kills are the most since Estrada went four straight from Aug. 30, 2014-Sept. 5.

The Redhawks come off three straight losses at the Drake Tournament last weekend. Senior outside hitter Krissa Gearring, who led the Ohio Valley Conference in kills last season, and senior middle blocker Nzingha Clarke were preseason all-conference picks.

The match will be a homecoming for Southeast Missouri State coach Julie Yankus, who was an assistant at SIU under Brenda Winkeler from 2005-10. Yankus is 1-4 against the Salukis with her new team, winning on Sept. 7, 2013, in five sets at the Kansas State Invitational.
