COLLEGE STATION, Texas --- SIU's Kyle Landon placed second in the high jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Saturday.

Landon, a senior, equaled his career best of 7-5. The Chester native and Trey Culver of Texas Tech each cleared 7-5, but Culver earned the championship by having fewer misses.

This is the best NCAA finish for Landon, who has seven Missouri Valley Conference, high jump championships. He finished tied for third in the NCAA outdoor championships as a freshmen.

Landon had previously cleared 7-5 in last year's Olympic trials. He finished second in that competition, but didn't advance to the Olympics because he failed to reach the qualifying standard.

The second place finish is the best high jump performance by an SIU athlete since Darrin Plab of Mascoutah won back-to-back titles in 1991-92.

Landon placed fifth in last year's indoor meet.
