Nashville’s Hornets dominated the 15-team Chester Class 1A boys track sectional, rolling up 158 points, nearly doubling up on runner-up Wesclin. Wesclin scored 81 points, followed by Lebanon 70, Sparta, 51 and Mater Dei 29.

The Hornets won seven events, the pole vault, triple jump, 110 high hurdles, 800 and 400 meters as well as the 3200-meter relay and 1600 meter relay. Nashville doubled up in the triple jump, hurdles, the 400 and 800 meters.

Gavyn Lietz qualified for state in four events, winning the pole vault and high hurdles while placing second in the triple jump and 300 hurdles.

Two other Hornets qualified in two events. SIU track recruit Brandon Schnitker won both the 400 and 800 meters. Schnitker ran a 51.52 in the 400 and 2:03.99 in the 800. Tabor Kozuszek finished second in both the high jump and 400 meters.

Also advancing to state are Daymeon Baugh, Derek Kirgan and Jackson Aulds. Baugh won the triple jump while Kirgan placed second in the shot put and Aulds second in the high hurdles.

The only other athlete to qualify in two events was Mater Dei’s Luke Goebel. Goebel finished second in both the 1600 and 3200 meters.

The boys Class 1A state preliminaries is May 24 at Eastern Illinois University.
