CARBONDALE — Women's volleyball had the top Academic Progress Rate score for SIU's athletic teams Wednesday, when the NCAA released its latest data.

The Saluki volleyball team, which received a Public Recognition Award for being in the top 10 percent of the country in its sport, scored a perfect four-year rate of 1,000 in 2015-16. Programs had to score at least a 930 in their four-year average to avoid any penalties from the NCAA. Each student-athlete receives one point for being academically eligible and another for staying in school or graduating per semester.

The SIU softball team had the second-highest four-year average in the department, 997. Women's tennis (993) and women's golf (994) were next.

SIU's men's basketball team scored a 973. It was the fifth-highest in the Missouri Valley Conference.

SIU's women's basketball team scored 981, the sixth-highest score in the Valley.

The SIU football team scored 950, the eighth-highest rate in the 10-team Missouri Valley Football Conference.
