NORMAL — Six Salukis were honored by the Missouri Valley Conference Wednesday night at its annual softball banquet before the league tournament.

Senior first baseman Shaye Harre, senior outfielder Merri Anne Patterson and sophomore pitcher Brianna Jones were named first team all-conference. Junior third baseman Sydney Jones, freshman designated player/utility Katelyn Massa and freshman second baseman Maddy Vermejan were all named to the second team.

Vermejan was also named to the Valley's All-Defensive Team.

Harre won her second straight first team honor after a record-breaking season. The Nashville native broke SIU's all-time RBIs and doubles record this season, along with setting a new single-season walks record. Patterson led SIU with 39 RBIs, was second with 46 hits and second in runs (30). Jones (15-12, 2.11 ERA) made the first team for the second time in as many years after leading the pitching staff in wins, innings (195 1/3) and strikeouts (122).

Jones started every game for the Salukis and led the team with nine home runs. Massa started all 25 league games and batted .310 with 14 RBIs. Vermejan hit a team-best .344 in league play and had a perfect fielding percentage.
