CARBONDALE — Senior Kylie Giebelhausen and sophomore Nicole Martin were both named to the All-Missouri Valley Conference first team Wednesday.

Giebelhausen, the team’s lone senior, averages 11.6 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. She also has 32 blocked shots and 79 assists. Giebelhausen recently cracked SIU’s all-time Top 10 scoring list. The East Peoria native also ranks third all-time in blocked shots at SIU.

She is one of three players, Drake’s Becca Hittner and Missouri State’s Liza Fruendt to repeat as first team members. Only four other Salukis, Nikki Gilmore, Kasia McClendon, Dyana Pierre and Richonda Napier, have been named first team in consecutive seasons.

Giebelhausen, who has 32 blocked shots and 42 steals, this season was also named to the All-Defensive team along with Sammie Bachrodt, Drake; Danielle Gitzen, Missouri State; Megan Maahs, UNI; and Paige Saylor, Illinois State.

Martin, a sophomore, earned first team honors for the first time. She was named to the All-Freshman team last year.

Martin is the team’s leading scorer at 12.0 points per game while shooting 47.4 percent from the floor. She is averaging 5.5 rebounds per game, second best on the team.

Other first team members include: Sammie Bachrodt, Drake; Wendi Bibbins, Indiana State; Dani Franklin, Valparaiso; Hannah Green, Illinois State; Megan Maahs, UNI; Sara Rhine, Drake; and Alexa Willard, Missouri State.

Honorable mention selections include: Maddy Dean, Drake; Kerri Gasper, Evansville; Simone Goods, Illinois State; Ellie Howell, UNI; and Ashli O’Neal, Indiana State.

Abby Brockmeyer and Makenzie Silvey of SIU earned spots on the All-Freshman team. Also making the All-Freshman team were Gabi Haack, Bradley; Abby O’Connor, Loyola; and Paige Saylor of Illinois State.

Brockmeyer is SIU’s leading rebounder at 7.1 per game. She averages 10.1 points per game while shooting 49 percent from the floor.

Silvey averages 10.2 points per game. She is second on the team with 35 steals and has 42 assists.

Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Sixth Player of the Year, Coach of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year Awards will be announced today.
