LAS VEGAS — Austin Payne, a correctional officer from Johnston City, has won entry as a regional Young Gun winner to the Specialty Equipment Market Association's prestigious Battle of the Builders this November in Las Vegas.

Young Guns receive an all-expense-paid trip for two, transportation of the winner's vehicle and more.

Payne entered the same truck twice in the prestigious competition created to spotlight and inspire future industry icons, earning his 1970 Chevy C10 a spot in the finals.

"I asked around and got a chance to sit with a really good judge who does high-end car shows," says Payne. "He said 'touch every bolt and touch every piece. If you can touch everything and refine your car with flair, those little details may not get seen. But if you glance under hood and side, it matters.'"
