Seth Whitehead has been named the new executive director of the Illinois Petroleum Resources Board.
Whitehead comes to the IPRB after a four-and-a-half-year stint at FTI Consulting, where he was team lead of Energy in Depth, a research and education campaign focused on media outreach with regard to shale development across the country. A 2003 graduate of Southern Illinois University Carbondale and native of Fayette County, Whitehead’s duties at the IPRB will include serving as the primary media contact for the upstream Illinois oil industry.
“I look forward to sharing the story of the remarkable past and bright future of the Illinois oil industry,” said Whitehead, whose family has worked in the oil and gas industry for four generations. “The Illinois petroleum industry is anything but ‘Big Oil,’ as our exploration and production industry is 100 percent owned and operated by small, independent producers. However, our local industry does have a big positive economic impact on the state, generating millions in revenues while creating and supporting thousands of jobs.”
Whitehead will replace Charles Williams, who is retiring after serving as IPRB executive director since 2003.
