Christopher High School has selected Athena Flint, Madeline Gossett, Camryn Maloney, Karla Tucker, Joshua Underwood and Megan Wilson for honors based on academics, leadership and community service.
Flint, 17, is an Illinois State Scholar, Scholar Bowl captain and co-captain, 2016 Graduation Marshal, Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering regionals first overall and 300 division in English, first overall and two firsts 300 division in chemistry, third in biology 300 division, WYSE sectionals two firsts in chemistry and second in English, 300 division and WYSE State Finals qualifier three times. She is a member of National Honor Society, fall float committee, community service club, Math Field Day and prom committee.
The daughter of Don and Angie Flint of Mulkeytown, she plans to major in chemistry at Yale University.
Gossett, 17, is vice president of community service club, Christopher Area Betterment Association student representative, National Honor Society president, class president, yearbook editor, SIUE Provost Scholar, IPA breakfast nominee, Illinois State Scholar, Class of 2016 Graduation Marshall, Wendy’s Heisman State Finalist and Scholar Athlete; won first and second at regionals, two seconds and third at sectionals in chemistry at WYSE competition; and received All-Conference, All-South, All-Tournament at West Frankfort, Mule Mash and Superman Classic tournaments, MVP and many other honors in volleyball and were regional champions; received All-South, MVP, first team All-Conference, Benton Holiday All-Tournament team, regional champions and other honors in basketball; and is conference high jump champion, high jump, 4x100 relay, long jump and 300 M hurdles state qualifier, a sectional champion in track and field; and holds four school records in track and field. She is a member of the varsity basketball, volleyball, softball and track teams, student council, National Honor Society, community service club, math field day, engineering day, float committee, concession stand worker, homecoming attendant and 5k runner, yearbook staff, FROG, MERGE youth group, MOVE and M-FUGE church camps, prom committee and Teen Safe Driving Awareness Campaign.
The daughter of Brent and Angela Gossett of Coello, she plans to study mathematics education and statistics at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville
Maloney, 18, is an Illinois State Scholar, National Honor Society treasurer, class vice president, was named to the president’s list at Rend Lake College, inducted into RLC National Society of Leadership and Success, Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering winner at regionals and sectionals in English and state qualifier, and Winner of Christopher Turkey Tournament and Sesser-Valier Holiday Tournament cheerleading competitions. She is co-captain of varsity cheerleading team, scholar athlete, National Cheerleading Association, All American Nominee, “Pin It Forward” recipient, Most Spirited Cheerleader Award and homecoming attendant. Student Council, Co-Captain of the Varsity Cheerleading squad, community service club member, float committee, volunteered at numerous community events and is a member of yearbook staff, prom committee and Senior Model Representative for Brittany Silver Photography.
The daughter of Jeremy Maloney and Stephanie McCurren, she plans to biology/pre-medicine at University of Missouri, University of Missouri Kansas City or Northwestern University.
Tucker, 17, was on the high honor roll four years. She is a member of band, track team and Scholar Bowl.
The daughter of Tara Ferguson and Johnny Tucker, she plans to study aviation at SIUC.
Underwood, 17, is an Illinois State Scholar, 2016 Graduation Marshall, National Honor Society secretary and a building trades student, completed dual enrollment credit classes and 10 hour OSHA safety certification. He is a member of WYSE team and Sunset Spurs 4-H Club.
The son of Wanda Underwood of Christopher, he plans to major in agri-business at Rend Lake College and SIUC.
Wilson, 17, is yearbook editor, 2016 Graduation Marshall, Dual Enrollment college credit classes, National Honor Society vice president and earned Volleyball All-Conference, Softball All-Conference, Volleyball Scholar Athlete Award, Volleyball Most Digs Award, Basketball Scholar Athlete Award and varsity letters in volleyball, softball and basketball. She is a member of WYSE, National Honor Society, Student Council, prom committee and the volleyball, basketball and softball teams.
The daughter of Randy Wilson and Jessica Rusher of Christopher, she plans to study English at University of Florida.
