Three Du Quoin residents were injured when a driver fleeing police crashed his car and collided with another at about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday on Park Street Road in Du Quoin.
Steven M. Taylor, 31, was fleeing from Du Quoin police, who had received a report that the driver of the car was driving under the influence, according to information provided on the state police media hotline.
Taylor was eastbound on Park Street Road east of Brickyard Road when he apparently ran his car off the left side of the roadway, striking a guardrail. The car returned to the roadway and was struck by a car traveling westbound on Park Street Road. Taylor's car then crossed the roadway and struck another guardrail before coming to rest in the eastbound lane of the road.
Taylor suffered major injuries, as did the driver of the other car, Ian M. Lawrence, 20, and Lawrence's passenger, Mark A. Eaton, 19.
Taylor was airlifted to a St. Louis hospital, while Lawrence and Eaton were taken to Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin for treatment of their injuries.
