On April 30, 2017, Kiwanis International and the Spastic Paralysis Research Foundation will be hosting a bowl-a-thon fundraiser, at SI Bowl, Carterville, IL, to raise financial support for research into the causes and treatment of spinal paralysis. Spinal paralysis is not necessarily a disease itself, but a symptom of various diseases or medical conditions. Research includes diseases such as brain tumors, spinal biffida,, genetic causes of mental retardation, and developmental disabilities of prematurely born infants.
