Actor and director Kevin Purcell is set to bring his production of "A Child's Christmas in Wales" to The Varsity this weekend in what has become an annual theater tradition in Carbondale.

Purcell will be joined by members of the Southern Illinois Children's Choir. The staged production is based on the holiday story by Dylan Thomas. Purcell directs and acts. Music for the production was written by Illinois composer Tim Schirmer, who will play piano for the performance.

A news release from The Varsity describes "A Child's Christmas in Wales" as "a personal, nostalgic and often comical recollection of past Christmases, evoking memories at every turn."

Performances are set for 3 and 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15. Tickets are $10 for adults, $6 for students and $2 for children 10 and younger, and may be purchased in advance at thevarsitycenter.eventbrite.com, or at the door the day of the show beginning at 2:30.

The Varsity is at 418 S. Illinois Ave. in Carbondale.
